Knowledge is power

 Tuesday

I haven't blogged for a couple of days as we have come away for a few days to the southern Dordogne for a bit of cycling and hopefully lots of exercise.  The only negative is I forgot to bring the bloody scales.

I have been really struggling with the eating and fasting and am getting to 18-19 hours and just can't go any further.  I think this is not a good time whilst we are away and cycling 60kms daily and then trying to go further with fasting.  I am trying to eat lowish carb but not doing terrible well at that.

So I have been listening to The Fasting Method podcast and omg I have learned so much.  One of the main things I have learned is about Fat Fasting.  Fat Fasting is where you chose 4 foods that are high fat and low carb and you eat them every day for as long as it takes for it to curb your appetite.  They suggest bacon, eggs, olives and avocados.  This can take 5 days or 2 weeks but eventually by fuelling your body from fat and the boredom factor of eating the same thing eventually your appetite is curbed.  Also your insulin levels are very low and not spiked at all.  I want to try this but it is not easy when I live with the biscuit, bread and cake monster.  I will have a talk with him about it when we get home and maybe try it for a few days and see how it works out.  Of course I have Lou and the girls coming but I am sure we can work something out.

So as well as The Fasting Method I have started listening to the Jason Fung Obesity Code Podcast and that has been a huge revelation.  It just makes it all seem so understandable.  All this calories in and calories out shit that we have been brainwashed with for years.  I hate reading that on the different groups I am in.  It cannot be right that it is calories in and calories out.  He explains about teaching the body to use fat for fuel.  I am starting to get a real handle on this.  Also what is going on with carbs and especially sugar.  I am not particularly sugar addicted as I prefer savoury things but I do like to have something sweet after my dinner.  I need to get a better understanding of all this because according to Fast, Feast, Repeat all we need to do is fast and then we can eat whatever including a dessert and we will all be skinny.  Well that is not true.

I am starting to feel really cross with Gin Stevens because she makes it all sound very simple and it isn't.  The other thing is that Alternate Day Fasting or longer if possible is most beneficial .  The regime for weight loss recommended in The Fasting Method is 42/16.  This sounds tough and I really want to try it but I get so grumpy and Mike won't tolerate that.  I need to be away from him to try it and it's not very likely that is going to happen.  I wonder if I could do a kind of mix of 42/16 and fat fasting.  They talk a lot about training wheels using bone broth or bacon.  I could try that when we get home.

There is so much to think about and take on board if I keep going with this.  I really want to.  After at least 60 years of being fat or maybe just believing I am fat when I wasn't then it isn't going to be fixed quickly.

MY 3 BLESSINGS TODAY

Having this beautiful motorhome which gives us so much freedom to spend time doing things together.

Living in such a beautiful country and having such access to it

Having our tandem which gives me exercise, I can see the country side and be in it.  It let's me be out and about with Mike and where we can be close.

So another 60 kms forecast for tomorrow.  Looking forward to it!
